Tutors Needed for Spring 2022!

Tutor & scholar work together on sight words

Freedom Readers is ready to welcome scholars back in person at four locations this spring!  We are excited to get back to our roots with energetic and fun face-to-face meetings using “The 7 Habits of Happy Kids” curriculum for scholars this spring.  As we prepare to kick off the session during the week of January 24th, we are still in need of several tutors to make sure each scholar has individualized tutoring. Our need right now is greatest in Georgetown County.  The Plantersville Elementary School location (1668 Exodus Dr, Georgetown, SC 29440) will meet on Wednesdays from 2:20-3:50pm.  Our Arnett AME Church location (900 N. Merriman Road Georgetown, SC 29440) will meet Thursdays from 4-5:30pm.

Freedom Readers will provide all the training you need, so if you have a love of reading, children, and can dedicate 2 hours/week to one of our scholars, please consider registering to be a tutor today!

We are also enrolling students into our virtual tutoring program, The Reading Lab.  If you aren’t able to tutor in person, please consider becoming a virtual tutor! As a virtual tutor, you will meet once/week to read with your assigned scholar and practice sight words by playing games and/or doing popcorn reading.  Many of our virtual tutor/scholar pairs remain in touch and meet occasionally even after the session ends.

We have missed our scholars and tutors being together in person!  This spring session is scheduled for 9 weeks. If you are interested in becoming a tutor, please click here and fill out our Volunteer Registration Form or email our Programs & Development Director, Maranda Johns, at maranda@freedomreaders.org.  We look forward to safely welcoming everyone back this spring!
