Freedom Readers takes the cake – first prize winner for Best Cake! On November 2nd, 2019 Freedom Readers had the honor of participating in Cakes for a Cause fundraising event along with five other non-profit organizations that was held at Hook & Barrel/Croissants Bistro and Bakery in Myrtle Beach.

Students from the Culinary Arts program at HGTC partnered with local non-profits to decorate cakes in a theme that represents their assigned non-profit partner’s mission. Guests purchased “votes” which were used to vote for their favorite cake. All proceeds generated were donated directly to each of the non-profits. To eliminate any bias on the votes/donations, there were celebrity judges who decided on the best cake decoration winner.

Everyone enjoyed the live music and delicious oyster roast. Round of applause for all of the HGTC Culinary Arts students who did an amazing job on their cakes! Freedom Readers winning cake featured in the photo below.
